Still got Love fot the Streets n.5
Painted in 2013, Still Got Love for the Streets n.5 It stems from a pictorial reinterpretation of a fragment of graffiti centred on the letters “KE”. Isolated from its original context and enlarged to occupy most of the surface, the letter loses its alphabetical function and is transformed into form, structure and visual memory.
The work evokes a dynamic typical of graffiti: an obsessive focus on the construction of the letter as an element of identity. It is not the message that takes centre stage, but the way in which it is constructed. Curves, angles, volumes and proportions become the true subject of the work, revealing the formal complexity hidden behind a language often perceived merely as spontaneous or instinctive.
The title, Still Got Love for the StreetsThe title Still Got Love for the Streets openly declares the artist’s connection to the urban culture that has helped shape his visual imagination. This is not nostalgia, but recognition. Here, the street is reinterpreted through the medium of contemporary painting, whilst retaining the energy and expressive freedom that characterise the original gesture.
Through layering, calligraphic interventions and textured surfaces, Kende transforms a seemingly simple detail into a reflection on the value of the letter as an autonomous form. The ‘E’ thus becomes much more than a typeface: it is a trace, a presence and a tribute to the roots from which the artist’s entire body of work takes shape.
